Today we went to Sedgefield Agricultural Show. This was Swift’s first time at an agricultural show and she wasn’t phased at all by all of the animals there, from horses and donkeys to bulls and sheep. Mind you, she (and Hawk) very interested in all of the leftover food and dried animal poop that they managed to find everywhere.
Swift did really well and we won a rosette for Best Puppy in Breed. However I have realised that breed showing is not as easy as it looks and I need more practice. My inexperience of handling a dog in the breed ring is very obvious (at least to me anyway haha).
We didn’t manage to get anything in Best Puppy in Group, and looking at the other competitors, they were really lovely dogs and all showed really well and their handlers were much better than me too. Swift did stop part way through her run up and down the ring, to have a little pee – oops, but after drinking all that water (it was warm for her), when you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go.
Thankyou to Steven Whitehead who tries to help advise me what I need to do – I will get there eventually I’m sure!
I’ve not got any more breed shows entries in at the moment, so watch this space and I’ll update you on our next venture into the show ring, whenever that may be!
